Bouncing over Jamaican backroads with Christian Craighead, we got into a debate that probably goes back 100 years: 9mm versus .45 ACP for killing folks. But unlike basement-dwelling keyboard warriors who I wouldn’t give a shit to discuss this topic; with Craighead I was all ears. When a man who has real-world experience speaks, one is inclined to listen.
“The 9mm is okay but be prepared to shoot two or three times per assailant. If you have multiple attackers, you need to have a gun with high-capacity, and it takes time to put multiple shots on target before transition to the next target. I think the .45 is faster simply because you don’t need multiple shots per attacker. I think I might go back to carrying a .45,” Chistian opined.
When I was coming up, the “9mm vs .45” debate was all the rage. But in recent years, with high-performance 9mm loads, and high-capacity micro-compact auto pistols, it seems like the debate has been put to rest: 9mm is America’s cartridge and the .45 is dead. Or so I thought.
