MAGNUM LITE® 17HMR and 17Mach2 Graphite Semi-Automatic Rifles
Update to previous warning published by the prior Magnum Research Inc. on its website July 15, 2009.
In June of 2010 Kahr Arms purchased certain assets of Magnum Research, Inc. ® (MN). We have since incorporated a new company named Magnum Research, Inc. ® (DE).
Although we are a new and different company, we would like to accommodate customers of the prior Magnum Research, Inc. ® (MN). It has come to our attention that certain lots of 17HMR and 17Mach2 ammunition may exhibit performance problems. These problems could result in damage to your rifle and may be capable of causing injuries to shooters or bystanders.
As a result, we strongly advise immediate discontinued use of rifles chambered in both 17HMR and 17Mach2 calibers due to these ammunition performance problems. Although performance of ammunition is outside the control of Magnum Research, we take safety concerns seriously.
For any customer who has purchased as new, a Magnum Research MAGNUM LITE® 17HMR or 17Mach2 rifle manufactured by the prior company, please contact our Customer Service Department at 508-635-4273, Monday-Friday 8:30-4:30 CST. Magnum Research will offer the following:
For MAGNUM LITE® graphite rifles in 17HMR caliber:
Contact Magnum Research Customer Service and receive authorization to return the rifle. Magnum Research will re-barrel the rifle to 22WMR at no charge to you. In addition, when and if the ammunition problem is resolved, you may send your rifle back to Magnum Research and we will re-install our graphite 17HMR barrel again, at no charge to you.
For MAGNUM LITE® graphite rifles in 17Mach2 caliber:
Contact Magnum Research Customer Service and receive authorization to return the rifle. Magnum Research will offer the following options:
- Magnum Research will re-barrel the rifle to 22LR at no charge to you. In addition, when and if the ammunition problem is resolved, you may send your rifle back to Magnum Research and we will re-install our graphite 17Mach2 barrel again, at no charge to you.
- You may take advantage of a “trade-up” program offered to customers who purchased as new, the MAGNUM LITE® rifle in 17Mach2 caliber. Magnum Research will offer the following allowances
on your 17Mach2 rifles for an equivalent stocked MAGNUM LITE® 22WMR rifle:
CCI/Federal Premium Ammunition: Product Safety Notice and Warning 17 HMR Ammunition.

Dear Customer:
Do not use 17 HMR ammunition in semi-automatic firearms. Use of 17 HMR ammunition in semi-automatic firearms may result in serious personal injury or property damage.
17 HMR ammunition is manufactured in accordance with standards issued by the Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufactures’ Institute (SAAMI). Subsequent to the design and introduction of 17 HMR ammunition to the market, 17 HMR semi-automatic firearms were introduced by various firearm manufacturers. Those firearms have proven to be incompatible with 17 HMR ammunition. 17 HMR ammunition is suitable for use in quality firearms in good condition that are not semi-automatic.
Accordingly, do not use 17 HMR ammunition in semi-automatic firearms. Only use 17 HMR in modern firearms in good condition marked for 17 HMR cartridges. Always use eye and ear protection. Always read all product labeling carefully for instructions on safe use.

Dear Magnum Research Customer,
It has come to our attention that certain lots of .17HMR ammunition may exhibit performance problems. These problems could result in damage to your rifle and may be capable of causing injuries to shooters or bystanders.
Although performance of ammunition is outside the control of Magnum Research, we take safety concerns seriously.
For any customer who has purchased a Magnum Research .17HMR rifle, and has a concern about this issue, please contact our Customer Service Department at 1-800-772-6168, Monday-Friday 8:30-4:30 CST. By your request, if you decide to return your rifle, Magnum Research will either refund the purchase price of the rifle, or replace the rifle with an equivalent one in a different caliber.
As always, ensure you are wearing approved eye and ear protection anytime you are shooting, and consult your owner's manual for further warnings and information regarding the proper function of your firearms.
