Magnum Research® launches Glacier Ridge™ accessories product line

The stock design features a semi-palm swell on both sides of the pistol grip, a high comb for proper scope shooting, and a molded-to-fit rubber butt plate. Auto-Ordnance supports Big Hearts under the Big Sky Organization

Pearl River, NY – USA based Auto-Ordnance and the family of firearms that also includes Magnum Research Inc. and Kahr Arms, recently donated the Thompson 1927A-1 to the Big Hearts under the Big Sky Organization.

Founded in 2008, the Big Hearts under the Big Sky (BHUBS) is a charitable organization that works in partnership with Montana Outfitters and Guides Association. Their mission is to provide a Montana outdoor adventure to US servicemen and women, children with life-threatening illnesses, and women fighting breast cancer.

Providing hunting and other outdoor experiences to qualified candidates requires a group effort. BHUBS has teamed up with other charitable organizations to help them achieve their mission. Four national charities have also stepped up; Catch-a-Dream Foundation, Wounded Warrior Project, Casting for Recovery, and Hunt of a Lifetime.

The donation from Auto-Ordnance is in keeping with the theme that parent company, Kahr Arms, started several years ago, to demonstrate their patriotic pride in our US troops as well as other Americans who are fighting life-threatening personal battles here at home.

The Thompson 1927A-1 is the time-honored original “Tommy Gun” reproduced in a more modern version semi-auto. The frame and receiver are machined from solid steel or aluminum and the wood is genuine American walnut. The .45 caliber carbine features a 16-1/2” finned barrel, and the donated model includes a 30 rd stick magazine and a 50 rd drum magazine for the true Tommy Gun experience. BHUBS plans to put the Thompson 1927A-1 up for auction at an upcoming fundraising event in April.

Kahr Arms Shares a Fish Story

It seems that just about everyone has an interesting “fish” story to share. Recently, Kahr Arms was presented with just such an opportunity and we thought our customers would be interested in this one. Our “fish” story is about a Kahr customer named David Fish.

On February 4, 2012, David Fish, an entertainment executive from Las Vegas, completed an exhausting day at an entertainment conference at the Staples Center in downtown L.A. In spite of the early hour, he decided to head back to his Las Vegas office. It was just after 4:00 a.m. and Mr. Fish was driving his 1999 black Corvette coupe down one of the deadliest highways in America, I-15. He was just about 9 miles into Nevada from the CA/NV border when he came upon another car, swerved to avoid hitting him, lost control of his Corvette, did a 360° spin, and slammed into the guardrail at approximately 60-70 mph. The driver of the car that he had swerved to avoid hitting sped up and left the scene.

David had been ejected from the rear hatch window of his Corvette and had landed 35 feet onto the north side of I-15. He was unconscious and was perilously laying in the fast lane. Another driver coming across the scene, called 911 and an ambulance was dispatched. When the ambulance arrived at the hospital, David was treated for a broken neck (C2 and T1-T5), 3 broken ribs, 24 stitches in the back of his head, broken left leg, 28 staples below the knee that wrap around his left leg, loss of 8 nails between toes and fingers, and a deflated lung. The next few months he endured the pain and swelling, but also healing and physical therapy. Six months later he is sharing his story with us as a survivor.

 

Mr. Fish brought his story to Kahr because he thought we might be interested to hear about another victim of the accident – his Kahr P9 which he had purchased just a few months earlier. Trooper Eric A. Mulkey of the Nevada Highway Patrol Southern Command unit best described what he found at the scene of the accident. Mr. Fish had already been taken to UMC-Vegas by ambulance when Trooper Mulkey arrived at 4:45 a.m.

The Corvette was still melded to the guardrail and was heavily damaged. Debris from the car was strewn across all 3 northbound lanes, the center median and the right shoulder of I-15. As Trooper Mulkey began to mark roadway evidence, he was surprised when he picked up the body of what appeared to be a pistol magazine. As he further marked the roadway, he located the magazine spring and follower, as well as several rounds of unfired 9mm. These components were all located about 65 feet northwest of the Corvette. Trooper Mulkey continued to walk the roadway and located the Kahr P9 in the fast lane, some 170-175 feet from the car. It was no longer in its holster and it was evident by the scratches and gouges that the firearm had been run over by northbound traffic numerous times. When he picked up the gun, he was surprised to find that he was still able to clear the gun and lock the slide.

“As a Lead Firearms Instructor for 14 years, and a Certified Armorer for the Division for 10 years, I was curious about the functionality of the gun,” stated Trooper Mulkey. “I was amazed that the only visible damage was a crack to an internal support within the polymer grip. The slide was still easily manipulated without any binding. The trigger and striker system appeared functional, as well as all the external controls. The condition of the firearm under these extreme circumstances is really a testament to the quality of these pistols. I myself am familiar with the Kahr K40, K9 and the PM9 and I have always been very impressed with their design and accuracy.”

After Trooper Mulkey returned the P9 to its owner, David Fish took the gun out to the gun range to test fire it. Mr. Fish reported, “After replacing the broken clip, even with the grip cracked, I found the P9 shot remarkably well.” He then shipped it back to Kahr Arms to be repaired.

When Kahr received the P9, the only damage was an internal supporting member on the inside of the grip. The frame was replaced on the gun but the top half of the P9 was not damaged.

We provide this update on Mr. Fish. His surgeons have told him that the surgery he was scheduled for to fuse his C-2 and C-3, followed by months of wearing a halo has been canceled indefinitely. He is healing well and his pain is diminishing. As for the P9, it is now back in the hands of its original owner.

We give a special thanks to Mr. Fish and Trooper Mulkey for sharing this harrowing experience with Kahr.

 
The P9 was run over numerous times by large tractor trailers and the only damage was to the internal support in the magazine well.
The gun cycled and functioned perfectly except the magazine would not release due to the damaged internal support, there was no internal damage to the slide or the barrel.

Pearl River, NY – USA based Magnum Research, Inc. (MRI), introduces their newly re-engineered Magnum Lite MLR22 Win Mag rifle series in a semi-auto configuration. The USA manufactured Magnum Lite series includes 6 models; 2 with an 18” stainless steel barrel, and 4 with the patented Magnum Lite exclusive 19” graphite barrel.

The graphite rifle barrel utilizes uni-directional graphite fibers parallel to the bore axis, resulting in a barrel with 6 times the stiffness of the equivalent weight of steel. The lighter barrel is easier to handle and dissipates heat up to 43% faster than steel. The result is rimfire performance with extreme accuracy.

Features include: an 11-degree muzzle crown, a weaver-type rail for optics in a black anodized finish, and a patented gas system and block under the barrel that taps a small amount of gas through an orifice hole in the barrel. The result is higher efficiency and improved accuracy when using 40 and 50 grain loads (30 grain not recommended). The one-piece CNC-machined receiver with integral scope base has been manufactured utilizing 6061-T6 aircraft aluminum. MRI bolts are manufactured and machined from heat-treated and thoroughly hardened 4140 steel, with minimum head space for better accuracy. Engineering changes have also been made to various springs and the chamber, resulting in one of the most reliable semi-auto .22 Win Mag rifles on the market.

All models utilize the 10/22® trigger group and 10/22® rotary magazines.

Other options available among the six Magnum Lite MLR models include: thumbhole stocks on the Barracuda Nutmeg, Barracuda Pepper and Barracuda Forest Camo. The MLR Hogue® comes in an OverMolded™ black stock, and the stainless steel barreled model can be purchased in either the Hogue OverMolded black stock or Barracuda Pepper stock. The weight of the graphite barrel model in the MLR22 series is less than 5 lbs. and an overall length of 35.5 inches (38 inches on the stainless steel model and just over 7 lbs). Prices range from $727 to $935 depending on the model.

Features of the new MLR22AT include an ambidextrous lightweight thumbhole 10/22® stock made from polypropylene with fiber additives for maximum strength. The new stock design features a comb height designed for comfort, with a semi-palm swell on both sides of the pistol grip, a molded-to-fit rubber butt plate, and the comb height easily accommodates optics.

The new rifle will be equipped with the Magnum Lite® revolutionary patented graphite bull barrel, exclusive to Magnum Research. The patented uni-directional graphite fibers, parallel to the bore axis, results in a barrel with 6x the stiffness of the equivalent weight of steel. The lighter barrel weights (from 13-16 oz. depending on barrel length) are easier to handle and dissipate heat up to 43% faster than steel. The result is extremely accurate rimfire performance.

Additional features of the MLR22AT include: .22LR Benz target chamber designed specifically for semi-automatics; full floating barrel for maximum accuracy, CNC-machined receiver from 6061-T6 aircraft aluminum forging with an integral weaver-type rail for optics, and a black anodized finish. The MLR22AT weighs only 4.25 lbs., has a barrel length of 17 inches, and an overall length of 35.5 inches.

This rifle utilizes the 10/22® trigger group and 10/22® rotary magazines. MRI bolts are manufactured and machined from heat-treated and thoroughly hardened 4140 steel with minimum headspace for better accuracy.

Kahr Arms continues their support of U.S. troops

Tim Pearce Joins Kahr Arms

Pearce’s experience in the firearms industry spans more than 15 years and includes customer support, product management, logistics management and also working as a gunsmith. Most recently, Tim had been the Product and Customer Support Manager at FNH USA.

In addition to his role as director of Customer Service for Kahr Arms, Tim will also use his expertise to expand the functions of both the Web Shop Parts, Accessories Sales and Custom Shop departments. Pearce will begin his new position effective May 31.

This year we are dedicating the 15th edition of the Kahr Arms brochure to the brave men and women in our Armed Forces who have been fighting two wars over the last decade on behalf of our country. Our theme, All American, symbolizes our determination to producing an “All American” product by sourcing components here in the US and providing well-paying manufacturing jobs to American workers which helps to keep our country strong and free.

My oldest son was only 14 years old in September 2001 when terrorists flew planes into the Twin Towers, the Pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania. He is now 24 and has served two tours in Afghanistan thus far and is currently preparing for a third as a member of the Marines' Special Operations. He is proud to serve his country and defend the cause of democracy on our behalf.

These brave men and women are spending countless hours to prepare for the dangers they face in faraway places and while in danger they make incredible sacrifices to keep America free and advance democracy.
